Liuhua Lake Park consists of 3 big lakes and 4 small lakes, covering an overall area of 540,000 square meters and a water area of 330,000 square meters. Liuhua Lake was named after the ruined Liuhua Bridge of the Southern Han Dynasty located at the northeast of the lake.
The whole park is divided into 4 parts. The north part has a long narrow lawn, where there are the Banyan Amusement Park, Precious Elephant Paradise, Badminton Playground, Floating Hill Park, and Lotus Island as well as a bird island. The bird island, occupying an area of over 3,000 square meters is where thousands of herons live. A bird-watching teahouse and platform have been set up for bird lovers to watch birds.
Liuhua Park is located in Liuhua Road with adjacency to Liuhua Bridge and Liuhua Lake. It used to be “Fangcun Garden ”(a famous imperial garden) in Southern Han Dynasty 2000 year ago. Through decades of renovation, it has been turned to an artificial lake park. There is an island in the middle of the lake, which becomes a protection zone for aigrettes, the rare “heaven of birds” in the downtown area.
